July 2010

A day which started wet but dried out to provide a pleasant if slightly chilly day.

Good competition in the Cadet class with some improving drivers, a competitive pair at the front of Junior Restricted who battled all day.  Some sympathy for Charlotte Oram in Juniors who needed one more competitor in the class to win the Annual Points Champs.

A very "traffic" oriented Clubclass/Heavy/Lights class had its moments.  The Open class was a walkaway for Daniel Picard once Paul Campbell made the tactical mistake of seizing the motor, but Max Light was very competitive.

The Bill Picard Memorial GP was won by Daniel Picard for the second year running, and he succeeded in lapping the whole field in doing it.

June 2010

A good turnout despite the cold, damp and wet weather with some good performances on a wet track.

June 2010 Summary

May 2010 Club Champs

Contested by Cadets, JR, Junior, Yamaha Heavy, Rotax Heavy and Open.
An overcast day, but the rain held off until the last two Grand Prix.

The day was notable for some very close racing in Cadets, between Jordy Lum and Zac Thompson in the lead and Logan Keats, Josh Donhue and Rianna OMeara-Hunt in the second bunch. Some very close racing also in Juniors where, in the GP, while Harry Wheelans and Marshall Krivan locked in first and second the remaining competitors swapped places continuously throughout the race.

In the Senior Grand Prix Daniel Picard turned in a nice demonstration of kart control in a twin in the wet, only just managing to stay in front of Nick Rodgers in a Rotax Max. Daniel also gets the spinners prize for the day, with three spins, one just after the start which the field managed to avoid and a recovery from two of them at exactly 360 degrees.

Junior Restricted was won convincingly by Kurt James with Campbell Caird as runner up. An achievement award for Brittany Lum for turning in a very creditable second in their wet GP (on slicks).

Yamaha Heavy was hotly contested between Charlton Hawes, Andrew Donohue and Hayden Sarcich, with Andrew turning in a consistent string of second places.

Rotax Max Heavy was always going to be a Nick Rodgers benefit, but Karl Cameron was always close behind with Iain Atkinson and Aaron Stagg close behind.

Open was a driving demonstration by Karl Wilson, with Danny running next and Dean Williams, temporarily out of retirement, turning in a very creditable performance in third.

May 2010 Club Champs Summary

Apr 2010

A very pleasant day in the sun, with a good attendance from the younger competitors.
Good performances in Cadets from Josh Donohue and Logan Keats, who now have the bit between their teeth, and an impeccable performance from Kurt James in JR, with Campbell Caird and Taylor Burling-Claridge making advances.
Juniors are currently dominated by Patrick Davy but Charlotte Oram is making performance gains and the remaining competitors are not far away.
Mixing Clubclass and Yamaha Heavy shows that the top Clubclass competitors are running at competitive speeds, but Andrew Donohue still dominated Heavies despite running two Cadets as well (with a lot of help).
Some good racing among the Maxes, with Iain Atkinson putting on weight to get into the serious stuff.
Open was a walkover for Karl Wilson.
Currently we have quite a few competitors in the junior classes at the point where their speed goes up and they start learning to overtake safely. That's good to see, but it can take a while - don't expect miracles!

 Apr 2010 Summary

Mar 2010

March Club Day gave us some close racing on a pleasant day.

Most popular event of the day? Ice cream sundaes for the juniors before prizegiving!

Second most popular - the close racing in Cadets between Jordan Lum, Zac Thompson and Thomas Batt and Josh Donohue and Logan Keats, and in Junior Restricted between Kurt James and Campbell Caird.

November 2009

A small turnout this time, but as always some great competition between racers.

Nov 09 Summary

July 2009

A great sunny day with the most karts on the track for some time, enjoyed by all with great racing all day.

Jul 09 Summary

June 2009

A day in which it didn't rain while the karts were racing, but in which the track never dried up. That resulted in a slippery track for most of the day, and a learning curve for the newer drivers in Junior Restricted and Cadet.

Jun 09 Summary

May 2009

Not a very attractive day to start off with, with driving wind and rain - but it slowly came right and was comparatively pleasant by days end.

A fairly large field of Cadets was nice to see, and they formed two reasonably competitive groups. The "all in" Seniors provided some exciting driving at times, especially when James Robertson took the bit between his teeth.

Junior Restricted is providing some quite close competition from the drivers on the learning curve.

May 09 Summary

April 2009

A sunny day with no wind, and a series of races in each track direction exercised the competitors.

A small Cadet field was dominated by Jordan Lum, a larger Junior restricted field by Kurt James, with James Webb visiting from Manawatu running a close second most of the day. Congratulations to Charlotte Oram on getting her B rating after spending a lot of time at the track. The class is expanding at the moment with a learning group of Campbell Caird, Hamish Stokes, Carter Sullivan-Watson and Taylor Burling-Claridge.

Juniors was largely a Stephen Taylor benefit with Patrick Davy and Marshall Krivan in string contention. Tim Fox had one of those "learning curve" days, spending more time off the track than on.

Clubclass was notable for the exit of Dennis Clark through a fence, but was otherwise a Chris Smyth, Daniel Whittington/Alex Betteridge fight for the placings, with Chris just too good.

Lights was comprehensively taken out by James Gorham, newly returned from a good showing in the Nationals, with Daniel Krivan and Mark Shillingford fighting for the minor placings.

Sole representative in Rotax Heavy Aaron Stagg spent the day learning the track.

Apr 2009 Summary

March 2009

March Club Day gave us some close racing on a fine sunny day. Cadets was notable for a very close battle between Jordan Lum and Thomas Batt which was mainly determined by luck in passing other karts. Logan Keats provided the middle of the field and is steadily improving, while Ashleigh Stewart and Josh Donohue both improved noticeably during the day.

Junior Restricted belonged to Kurt James with Jordan Mcleod and Charlotte Oram running very close together in the midfield. Campbell Caird and Hamish Stokes shared the back of the field - congratulation to Hamish on getting his C rating.

The regular Clubclass drivers had Chris Smyth consistently in the lead followed by Daniel Whittington. Bryan Robinson made a rapid exit through a fence, and will be sore for a while, but fortunately has no serious injury.

In Yamaha Heavy gave us some fairly intense racing, with the drivers fairly well matched, but Dion Cross proved too good on the day.

We also hosted the Bicket Bikes, who seemed to have a good time trying to keep their bikes and themselves on the track.

February 2009

A brilliant Sunday for Club Champs (run within the framework of a normal club day).

A good field of Cadets provided some heavy competition among the first five with some new entrants at the back and Logan Keats sandwiched in the middle. The speed with which the front group went through the back group was a great demonstration of skills on the one part, and determination on the other.

Not enough entrants to run a Junior, Yamaha Light, Max or Open Trophy class, but thanks to those who turned up to compete.
