KartSport Wellingtons Kaitoke Raceway will come alive for the weekend of 12th to 14th February 2010 with the hosting of the annual CIK Trophy of New Zealand event.

CIK Trophy of New Zealand is one of the premier events on the national karting calendar which will attract 120 plus drivers from all over the country. This is the first time the event will be held in Wellington.

The event hosts the KZ2, KF2 and Junior KF3 classes. Other support classes for the meeting include Cadet, Junior Restricted, Junior and Senior Yamaha Light and Heavy, and Senior Rotax Light and Heavy.

Also incorporated in the event will be the first round of the 2010 Shifter Series. Shifter racing is the “Formula One” of karting with a 4 round series event run at KartSport venues throughout the North Island.

In total 9 classes will compete over the 3 days of action packed racing.

An added bonus to this event for the Capital is the television coverage. This coverage will really showcase KartSport Wellington and the Wellington region. This coverage normally runs on TV 1’s Powerbuilt Tools Motorsport with repeated shows on Sky Sport.

2010 CIK Trophy of New Zealand Competitors Eligible for 2010 CIK-FIA KF2 and KF3 World Cups

At a recent meeting of the FIA World Motorsport Council it was announced that the top 10 competitors, from an ASN nominated national event for KF2 and KF3 in either 2009 or 2010, will be eligible to enter the respective 2010 CIK-FIA World Cup event. KartSport New Zealand has nominated the annual CIK Trophy of New Zealand event as our national event.

The 2010 CIK-FIA World Cup for KF3 will be held at Braga, Portugal on 9-12 September 2010. At the same event the 2010 CIK-FIA World Cup for KZ1 will be contested.

The 2010 CIK-FIA World Cup for KF2 will be held at Zuera, Spain on 16-19 September 2010. The CIK-FIA World Cup for KF2 will be the support class to the 2010 CIK-FIA World Karting Championships (SKF).

To be eligible for nomination by KartSport New Zealand, competitors must compete at the CIK Trophy of New Zealand on a KartSport New Zealand Licence. To compete at these World Cup events competitors will need an International Licence and Visa issued by KartSport New Zealand.

KartSport Wellington is also making enquiries towards gaining some overseas drivers from Australia, America and the Asia Pacific region to race at this event.

.Please note that CIK Trophy classes tyres will only be available from the impound area at entry on Saturday 13th on payment to the distributors of the required fee for the allowed six (6) tyres. This arrangement is necessary due to the lack of batch numbers on KZ2 tyres.
