JUNE CLUBDAY
Clubday is this coming Sunday 20 June. The track direction is reverse (or anti clockwise ). The duty class this month is all senior drivers, so please be there a bit earlier to help with the set up and stay around after racing to help with the tidy up.
CLUB CHAMPS
An excellent turnout last month saw 48 of our members contesting the various classes in our annual club champs event. Well done to all of you who who raced. Our next trophy event is the Enduro meeting in August. We will be having a prize giving function for the Annual Points, Club Champs and Enduro meeting on the night of Friday 24 September, so mark this date in your diaries now, more details later.
AGM
The annual general meeting of Kartsport Wellington is to be held on Tuesday 29 June at the Tattlers Room, Angus Inn, Lower Hutt. Start time is 7.30pm. We need you to attend as to hold the AGM there is a minimum number of our members who must attend. If we do not get the numbers required then we have to hold the AGM after drivers briefing on the July clubday. So please mark the date now, it shouldnt take more than a couple of hours and the bar will be open afterwards for a few refreshments.
UPPER HUTT CITY GRAND PRIX
A reminder that entries are now open for the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix to be held over the weekend of 31 July and 1 August. This is a two day event and the entry forms are available on the club website www.kartsportwellington.co.nz
. The closing date for entries is 24 July. This weekend is also of course tthe time we will be celebrating Kartsport Wellingtons 50th anniversary.
KARTSPORT WELLINGTON 50TH ANNIVERSARY
Along with the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix we are also celebrating 50 years of karting in Wellington. From our beginnings as Mana Kart Club at Duck Creek, to the world class racing facility we now have we have certainly come along way. There will be a special celebration dinner to be held on Friday 30 July at the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club. More information on this and ticket forms can also be found on the club website There will be historic displays, vintage karts, guest speakers, and more. The level of enquiry coming in about this event is huge and lots of past members are making contact telling us they are coming so the event will be huge. Along with the dinner on Friday night we will also be having some special displays and racing of vintage karts at the track over the weekend of the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix along with some special guest races etc.
WORKING BEE
Our next working bee is scheduled for Sunday 25 July. This will be a general tidy up around the track prior to the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix and we will also be doing some more work on the play ground area. Mark this date now as we want the track looking its very best for our big weekend.
SPONSORSHIP
A reminder that we are now selling the $100 raffle tickets for the sponsorship draw for the naming rights of the classes for the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix. An email will follow shortly with the form attached and there will be some at the club that you can collect. Remember the two members who sell the most tickets will get free entry to the Upper Hutt City Grand Prix meeting. We are also looking for anyone interested in sponsoring our Annual Points and Enduro meetings.
FINALLY
- Still have 2 Kartports available for lease so let me know if you want one . If you do use a kartport please be careful with any fuel spillage, and if you are using one of the new kartports please use a ground cover as the spilt fuel disolves the ashphalt surface.
- Well done to all our members who travelled to the Hawkes Bay over Queens Birthday weekend to compete in the WPKA meeting. Some great results that have come through.
- Still looking for a couple of members who may be interested in becoming a Kartsport Steward or maybe you know of a past member who might like to learn this important role. Let me know.
- We have been awarded by Kartsport New Zealand the hosting of the CIK Trophy for 2011. This was the National event we held earlier this year and was a great success with some great feedback from drivers, teams and spectators. We want to make it bigger and better for next year so watch out for more details soon. Planned date is the weekend of Auckland Anniversary being 29 and 30 January 2011.
- We have quite a few new members joing the club and coming for their first race days, if you see someone looking a bit lost please offer them some help, it is all a bit strange to start with so make them feel welcome and of course offer plenty of advice.
Thats all from me this month - see you at the track.
