February Clubday

Kartsport Wellington clubday is this coming Sunday 19 February. We will be running another twilight meeting, so a later start. Scrutineering will be from 11.00am with first karts out on the track by 12 noon. Remember the track is closed for the morning and no engines can be started until after drivers briefing. The duty class is all Junior drivers and there helpers.

Mi Sedaap CIK Trophy of NZ

Well what a fantastic event the Mi Seedap CIK Trophy of NZ was. The weather was great, excellent number of entries and again a huge response back from drivers and officials about our facility and how the event was run. Even better to see no official hearings, or DQs through tech over the whole weekend. A BIG thank you must go to you all our members, who turned up for the working bees and to help over the weekend in the various roles and shop. Thanks also to Upper Hutt BMX club for providing security and the boys from Hutt International Boys school for providing the flaggies. We could not have done it without you all. As a thank you the club will be putting on a complimentary BBQ dinner at the end of racing this Sunday. We will also let you know once we have the television dates and times for the TV3 broadcast of the event.

Club Promotions

Over the last 18 months our membership has gradually grown and this can be seen by some of the larger numbers now coming to clubdays which is great considering other clubs in NZ are losing members. We have seen some real growth in our Junior classes. As part of keeping the club growing we need to keep up the promotion of the club. There are two events coming up that we would like some help with.

Saturday 25 February is activation day at Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt, we need to set up a display with maybe a couple of trailers and karts. we will produce brochures about the club and the up coming have a go day. Just a matter of talking with the public and promoting the club.

Saturday 17 March is Community Fun Day at Bunnings Naenae, again a display with a couple of trailers and karts to promote the club. If you could help with either of these days let me know. Thanks

Have-A-Go Day

We would like to again hold a have a go day at the track on Saturday March 10. This is where we can offer the public a 10 minute drive in a kart for the cost of $30.00. These days are popular and busy. From the $30.00, $25.00 goes to the kart owner for providing there kart. We do need karts to use on the day. If you would be available with your kart and to help out please let me know ASAP. We need karts in all classes for the day.

Track Rating and Working Bees

Our annual track inspection was held in January just before CIK. With the creation of the extra car parking we were trying to obtain an A rating for our track. We are pleased to say that we did obtain our A rating and this now means we can apply to host the Kartsport New Zealand Nationals. The parking area needs to be finished. There will be a working bee over the weekend of Saturday 25 March and Sunday 26 March. The purpose of the working bee will be to finish the fencing etc in the new trailer park areas. We will let you know a bit closer to the time what you need to bring along. Put the date in your diaries.

March Clubday with Vintage Karts

We will be hosting the vintage karts at our clubday on Sunday 18 March. The vintage karts will run with us throughout the clubday. It looks like there could be twenty plus of them coming from around the country so will be great to watch. The vintage karts will also be at the track on the Saturday before clubday practicing.

Clubday Helpers

Over the last few years we have relied on mostly the same people to help run your monthly clubdays. It is now time for some new members to come through and learn some of these roles. Our starter Barry Cappleman has now retired from the starters role, but will continue on with being the clubs patron. Barry has done the starters role for over 10 years and the club must pass a huge thanks to Barry. NOW we need a couple of volunteers to learn this important job within the club. Without a starter we cant have a clubday. You get the best view on the track and shelter to watch the racing from. Barry will come and give you some training and we will help as well. Other roles we now need to train new people in are helping with race control and in the shop. You wont be needed every clubday just a few days each year, and we will set up a roster. Please come and talk with me at a clubday or give me a call for a chat anytime.

Club Karts

The club has recently purchased a cadet kart, and is in the process of putting together a Racket 120 kart. The purpose of these karts is to have available a kart that interested new members can hire for a clubday to get a feel for the sport. The club will provide the kart and a mechanic for the day for a set fee that includes a one day licence, etc. In other words arrive and race off the back of the class. The karts will also be available for lunchtime test drives at the usual $30.00 fee. If you know anyone interested in a drive we are taking bookings now.

Finally...

Do you have a business or job that could help the club, have you considered joining the committee, or training to be a steward or tech officer, we need new blood to help with the running of the club, we currently have a very dedicated team, but as time goes on people move on and we need to bring new people into these roles, if there is something you might be able to help with please give me a call anytime for a chat, or see me at a clubday.

Mi Seedap Noodles, without the support of sponsors like Mi Seedap events like CIK would not be televised. Please get to your supermarket and buy Mi Seedap Noodles, if that don't stock them then ask them to. Also remember to support all our other sponsors, they write some pretty big cheques to the club and we need to support there businesses back.

The Spark Services $250 prize package will be on offer again this coming clubday to all Wellington drivers who enter.
